Rare Early 19thc Italian Marionette on steel rod , 1.2m

£695.00Price

A fascinating and rare piece of antique folk art, this theatre marionette from Italy / Scicily has carved wooden head, hands and feet, and a body stuffed with straw. She is wearing a long black taffeta skirt and a lacy bodice with a petticoat underneath (some wear and tear to the clothing), and has a long lace mantilla scarf draped over her head which reaches to the bottom of her skirt. Her head is threaded on to a heavy steel pole with a hook to the top. One hand has a metal loop for wire to be attached to give movement. The other hand holds a ribbon attached to her skirt.

Height, without the pole, is 1.2 metres -please note, she is very heavy, approx 15kg.
